I’m pretty sure we’ve been visited by aliens. But once they had a look, they decided not to bother with us.

Earth. Lovely place but the people aren’t up to much

There, astronomers tell us, 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 solar systems in the universe.

Each one, probably contains eight or nine planets.

It doesn’t bear thinking about.

But I am thinking about it!
Here we are on our little tiny ball, floating around in our tiny little solar system, utterly insignificant in the scheme of things.

And what do we do with this beautiful green and blue globe?

Well, right now in the Middle East, people are killing each other, bombing each other, fighting each other on the streets.

In Yemen, a war funded by rich countries has left tens of thousands dead and even more facing the prospect of starving to death.

In Mozambique, ISIS terrorists are murdering at will while in Afghanistan, they killed dozens of schoolgirls simply because they were committing the sin of being educated. It’s much the same story in Nigeria and in several African countries.

In Syria, it’s a competition between outside forces and the government to see who can kill the most people.

In India, thousands are dying of Covid every day. Indeed, the virus is still causing chaos all over the planet.

The planet. That’s the little globe we’re on and which, through our behaviour over the centuries, we have brought to the edge of destruction.

China still burns fuels which destroy our atmosphere.

Brazil is still chopping down rain forests.

Indeed, much of the world especially in Asia, Africa and South America, appears to be making little or no effort to battle climate change.

The rich countries talk a great game. But they, that is to say WE, aren’t doing enough.

So as we hurtle around space on this little ball we call earth, we’re destroying the future for our children and we’re at war all over the place.

And what I’m wondering is this: If there are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 solar systems, and if each has, say, eight planets and maybe, one in ten million of those planets supports life, do you think there is even one of them where that life behaves as stupidly as we do?

I doubt it very much.

You know, I have this theory that earth has indeed been visited by “aliens” from other planets.

They hover around and take a look and see what we’re up to and what we’re like.

And then they return to where they came from and report that there are no signs of intelligent life on earth.

And they’re not far wrong.
