I wonder how that family they found in Holland last week, thought the world was going to end.
They’d been waiting for nine years, it seems, convinced the end of days was on the way.
Almost every year, someone will emerge and tell us all that Doomsday is coming.
Sometimes, they’re harmless eccentrics.
Sometimes, they’re dangerous like Jim Jones who convinced almost 1,000 of his followers to commit suicide in Guyana back in 1978. They thought the end of the world was coming.
So, how do you think it’s going to come?
A big flood?
A meteorite strike?
One thing’s for sure.
Nobody knows when.
At least, they probably don’t.
But here’s a thing or two which might help pin down a date!
Look around.
Who’s in charge?
Putin in Russia. Trump in the USA. Boris in the UK. Bolsinaro in Brazil. Kim Jong Un in North Korea. Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela. And they’re just the tip of the (melting) iceberg.
There are riots in Beirut, Barcelona, Santiago and Hong Kong.
There are wars in Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Iraq, South Sudan and elsewhere. In fact, there are is something like 60 wars big and small, raging around the world. The EU is one of the only places in whch there are none, Yet.
And then there’s climate change. Melting icebergs. Storms. Rising sea levels. More hurricanes, more typhoons.
You know, in a funny way, the whole state of the earth today reminds me of the story of Adam and Eve. And no, I’m not a creationist! I’m talking about the story itself.
Here, Adam. Here’s paradise. Take care of it. One rule, don’t eat the apple.
And whether you think it was Science or God who gave us earth, the message was simple.
Here people. Here’s paradise. Take care of it. One rule don’t destroy it.
But we couldn’t resist.

Ok ,..Lets try an answer or two for you ..If I may .
Environment , Revelations 11:18 .
Compare with what Jesus said at Matthew 24: 22 , The days of trouble would be cut short , because if they were let to continue ” No Flesh would be saved ”
Earth is changing faster the science wishes to admit .
2 Timothy 3:1-4 describes people and their attitudes , and “Not being Open to agreement ” besides all of the morality issues ….and greed of course .
Matthew 24 :3 onwards starts at 1914 with WW1 …… Nation against Nation , Kingdom against Kingdom etc . But at verse 34-35 , Jesus states that only ONE Generation would see all these things take place including the end . ………
This time period is the part of Daniel chapter 11 , the final few verses .. verse 40 -43 is 1914
( WW1 )to the wars in the Middle East ( Desert storm etc ) 44 and 45 are what is about to happen …. Notice though that The King of the north and south are no longer distinguishable in the last two verses ,..because they merge as one …. The End spoken of is the End ,..of all governments , IE: Armageddon .
Yes Adam had the privilege of ONE to ONE communication with the creator himself , and he chose not to listen , which is why his sin was so serious and the need for redemption through the sacrifice of Jesus ,… Adam KNEW …Adam Walked with God daily , and had actually conversations with him , and it may not have been an Apple , whatever fruit is was He was told it represented Gods right to make the rules ….
Imagine this conversation
” Adam ,…. Look , I made this planet ,… and that night sky you look up into , I made all of that , everything …. I know how this stuff is supposed to work ,….so listen to me . I am giving you the freedom of choice in almost everything your heart could desire , but accept my leadership , Let me be the guide , and I will grant you freedom in every other thing , including the Tree of Life which is also in this Garden ,….Listen to me ….Please …respect me ….and I will open my hands and satisfy everything you need . ( Wants a few of which may be included also ) But your needs , I will see to . ”
Satan comes along and says to Eve who was not directly told and was not part of that conversation ( see how he picks his targets ? ). Adam …chose Eve ,…. instead of Resecting the Creator and designer of life ……
That is the challenge in front of all mankind right now ,…Do We choose God’s Kingdom , or this world …. And that choice must be absolute ,… because it is the Final Battle between Kingdoms …..God’s Kingdom vs the Kingdoms of this world and their main Ruler …
Read Matthew 4:8,9 ….. and notice that Jesus did not argue with him and deny his ownership ….
When you read Revelations 11:18 notice who the rewards are given to ….Those fearing his Name …..
